New Mexico has produced “Smashed: Teen Brains and Alcohol,” a prevention documentary showing the effects alcohol has on teen brains and what teens, parents, and communities can do to create healthy teens. You can order a copy of the movie by clicking on this link. It only costs $10 and is chock full of the latest brain science and prevention efforts addressing underage drinking,

Here’s a clip from the documentary where I explain how alcohol advertising creates the neural nets in children that can lead to their binge drinking.
Media & Alcohol Segment of \"Smashed\"

This clip also explains why challenging alcohol expectancies is an effective prevention tool. To learn more about the science and theory behind challenging expectancies for prevention, please watch this

I’ve recently been informed that NREPP (SAMSHA’s National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices) has started it’s review of my Alcohol Literacy Challenge (ALC) Curricula. In a few months I should be able to post their findings on the quality of the efficacy data I’ve submitted. I’m very excited about this as the ALC will be the first classroom-based prevention program approved that addresses expectancies. This could create a paradigm shift in the prevention field, because the ALC takes only 90 minutes to deliver. Because the ALC is so time efficient, a major barrier to bringing alcohol prevention to schools will be eliminated. There’s been over a thousand scholarly studies documenting the effectiveness of challenging alcohol expectancies in a “Bar Laboratory” setting. Our data strongly suggests this curricula can achieve the same effect in a classroom. I’ll let you know what NREPP says after their review is published.

For ordering information on the ALC, please click visit our page.

Blessings!
Peter D.
